Saturday, the 29th of March 2014 dawned chilly and clear. The excitement mounted quickly as the first early birds dragged themselves up the driveway and registration got underway. Cups of gorgeous coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate went down a treat in the early morning excitement.
There was a great turnout of over 250 runners spread across the 8km and 5km routes. It is always fantastic to see so many enthusiastic and happy faces at the start line. A couple of people unfortunately took a misguided turn and ended up doing 14kms! We salute them for their perseverance and hope they enjoy their well-deserved prizes.
It was wonderful seeing all the familiar faces of folk that have attended year upon year, and also super to see so many new faces. We hope to see everyone again next year.
As always, prize giving was one of the highlights of the day, with some great new sponsors coming on board. Our fabulous “grand prize” this year of a two night stay for four people at the luxury villa, Oceans Echo in Fish Hoek was snapped up in the final lucky draw and was excitedly received.

While all this was happening in the foreground, it’s worth noting that there is a massive amount of organisation that goes on in the weeks leading up to each Bench2Bench. This year there were a few hiccups, but in true warrior spirit, all involved were able to muck in and things went as smoothly as ever on the day. Well done team!
Finally, we hope that in the spirit of the B2B, many more people will be bitten by the running bug!
