After the 6th running of this amazing event:
We had an amazing year, almost breaking attendance records, which are in excess of 280 participants across the 8km and 5km.
The day started, as any other with a touch of cloud to keep things cool for the runners. We welcomed aspiring finishers to le Sueur Avenue, so that they could register to be a part of the days festivities.
With registration going off smoothly, it was onto the start (next to the Bench) where John Harding and myself ran through ‘the rules’ and said some words.
Then we were off, up the Greenbelt, where all participants were either smiling or breathing heavily.
The cloudy weather had subsided and we ran the two routes bathed is magnificent sunlight.
Most runners were running strictly to their times (or at least trying to.)
Arriving at the finish line, I took some time to use the Bench for a little bit of reflection, before part 2 began.
Back up to our family home, we walked and chatted about how everybodies run’s were on the morning and if they were going to ‘upgrade’ to the 8km next year.
Once there, we made our way to the breakfast area and grabbed a delicious bite to eat!
Most making themselves comfortable on the grass. Background activity was at it’s height to arrange the results and prizegiving.
Prizegiving, led by Sid Stoffberg, was a hit, as usual. With way too many prizes!! (maybe ;))
The winners (Top 3) of the 8km and the 5km were all within 20 seconds of their time prediction. The ultimate winner was ONLY 1 second out…
Lucky draw time and the little kids had the honour of drawing the winners. It was very cute and the multitude of winners appreciated being drawn.
Well then an end to a super day, after thanking everybody for the participation and to the organisers,
See you again next year… (written by Ian Nixon – March 2013)
